The Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which was called to the scene after the alleged attack on Jean-Claude Hivan, the owner’s ex-spouse, attended the altercation between the owner and Mr. Hivan. The latter is also, according to the Registre des Enterprises, the administrator in residence of l’Arche.

The owner, Marilyn Lachance, poured her heart out on everything that led to the establishment’s closing.

“I don’t do it wholeheartedly,” she said. This is a longtime dream of mine, by the way. I have been giving 24 hours a day, seven days a week for eight years. It’s been a year today since the world told me that I was bankrupt and CIUSSS was managing it [mardi]I am closing because it should be RPA, but unfortunately residences like ours have funding”.

Employers are already breathing a sigh of relief after meeting new safety standards in 2019, particularly with the installation of sprinklers. Work costing over $120,000.

“It’s CIUSSS’s fault for the system’s ”colic” with their regulations, insurances have increased by 13,000 per year”, Ms. Lachance added.

Because of the challenges of purchasing a senior residence, there are fewer buyers and the owner may have to sell the vacant building.

“It’s my life’s dream, she recalls. It’s going to fall and that’s my job.”

Crisis management continues at Arche’s residence, but nine residents had to be moved as soon as possible.

CIUSSS de la Mauricie et du Center-du-Québec confirms that three of them have already found a place in another residence. As for the remaining six residents, living environments have already been identified for each of them. While awaiting their transition, CIUSSS MCQ teams remain on site to provide care and services to them.
