Vaccination of high school youth began on Monday morning in Quebec as CUS laid the red carpet for teenagers at C. Rosbelle High School.

Red carpet, yes, but on this hot sunny day the DJ, photo station and Mr. Freeze; CIUSSS set out to welcome young people aged 12 to 17 who were ready to receive their first dose of the vaccine.
Public Health said in recent weeks that young people want to get a special feeling after the hardest year they have experienced. “They are our celebrities, they have made a lot of sacrifices this year and we want to recognize this collaboration,” said Patricia McKinnon, regional director of vaccinations.
We must acknowledge that this is a mission.
“I am just happy to be here. We felt like little stars, ”said Margorite Watchen, a fifth-year high school student.
“The reception was really warm, it was a lot of fun,” Edward Lapoint added.
For freedom … and a ball
The young people we met were happy to finally be vaccinated. For many, the little gesture made on Monday morning was, in a way, a passport to freedom.
“I wanted to work at summer camp this summer, so I had to get vaccinated. I’m glad it’s done,” said Henry Roy, 16, who also pointed out the fascination of being vaccinated in a group. “But it’s more fun. That sounds good. “
The famous subject of prom also came up frequently. We are still waiting for the public health decision, which will determine whether or not we will allow year-round activities, many people are dreaming about it.
“If it serves as an argument for us to have the ball, that’s fine. If we all need to be vaccinated, I’m sure everyone is ready to do it,” Edward Lapoint said.
When asked about this at a press conference, Deputy Prime Minister Genevieve Gilbolt recalled that he was careful and that public health was still studying the issue. However, she said the vaccine operation should not be seen as a potential alternative to the graduation party.
“We thank them [de se faire vacciner], But now, will it replace the ball? You have to be careful about this kind of exchange, ”he said.To me Gilbolt.
A thousand young people
As for the logistics of the operation, which starts from Monday, it is a major one.
At 9:30 a.m., buses passed through the Exposit Fair Center parking lot. Everything is going smoothly as it is estimated that about 1,000 young people will be vaccinated Monday afternoon from Rochebelle High School.
This course is similar to the general population with some of the bonuses mentioned above. To meet the demand, CIUSSS has mobilized enough staff to operate the site at full capacity.
“It’s 230 vaccines per hour, so we’re really, really, at the maximum number,” Ms McKinnon explained.
Other vaccination centers will also receive young people from different schools in the coming days. The school-based operation will run until the middle of next week.
