Forecast for 2024: These jobs could see a big pay rise

According to an update from the Order of Certified Human Resources Advisors, Quebec workers should receive an average salary increase of 3.7% in 2024, but some may benefit from more attractive increases than others.

“The growth forecast for 2024 is very high compared to historical normals. The sectors of activity at the bottom of the ranking plan offered will also grow this year, which will make it possible to preserve the purchasing power of their workers,” commented Manon Poirier, Director General of the Order, CRHA.

As announced in September, this forecast is higher than in the last fifteen years and corresponds to the 3.5% granted in 2023.

However, some trades may have higher than average growth. This is particularly the primary and resource sector, i.e. agriculture, forestry, fishing, energy, mining, oil and gas and the professional services sector. , scientific and technological with +4.1% estimate.

After last year's 5.2% jump, the information and communications technology sector will see smaller increases, as will workers in wholesale and retail trade, transportation and warehousing.

At the bottom of the pack in recent years, public administration employees expect a 3.9% increase.

“The public sector is in catch-up mode. Even if the overall pay is generous, especially because of the retirement plans, sooner or later salaries will have to be increased to maintain the attractiveness of the public sector as an employer,” said Ms. Poirier commented.
