The Haitian government is calling for help. Street gangs terrorize the inhabitants of many cities. Energy shortages cripple the economy. Hyperinflation threatens the lives of some of the population.

Should the United States and Canada help Haiti? By sending armed forces there to restore order? The answer is no.

Because this foreign aid does nothing for Haiti.

Such foreign aid is also abhorred by a segment of the population that fears foreign interference and sees a shameful return to the colonial era.

These fears are unfounded. Western nations would not survive the colonial era for long.

Illusory

But it is delusional to think that foreigners can save Haiti from the corruption and incompetence of its economic and political elite.

Instead, expect that foreign powers will soon be blamed for all evils and that Haitian elites will once again use foreigners as scapegoats to excuse their poor work.

Haitian political and economic elites began to fear that if they were calling on foreigners for help, they would lose their property and lives.

Haiti’s suffering is not over. Street gangs impose their order there. Will these new bandits be more successful than those who have ruled Haiti so far? Maybe not.
