“G7 ministers have made baseless allegations against China and completely interfered in its internal affairs,” Chinese diplomat Wang Wenbin told reporters.

  • Listen to international political columnist Loek Tosse with Benoit Dutrizak on QUB Radio:

Ministers from seven countries (Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom) who met in London on Wednesday called on Beijing to “respect human rights and fundamental freedoms.”

The G7 said the Muslim minority was “concerned” about violations of fundamental rights in Xinjiang (northwest China), targeting members of Uighurs and other ethnic and religious minority groups.

Speaking about Hong Kong, which enacted the Beijing National Security Act last year, ministers criticized the communist regime in the former British colony for “fundamentally destroying the democratic aspects of the electoral system”.

In response, Wang called on the G7 to “solve their problems” on Thursday.
