A decision by Ottawa to welcome 500,000 people with an immigrant background each year starting in 2025 is a “potential disaster” for Quebec, which could lose its political weight, said Alexis Brunel-Ducep, a spokeswoman for Bloc Québécois immigration.

“It’s mathematical, with the announcement of these new thresholds there’s a potential for disaster,” the Black MP said in an interview on QUB Radio on Friday.
According to him, the Trudeau government has not presented a credible plan for housing, services and reception needs in the health and education systems, but only “one person”.
“Yes immigration is wealth and yes population and for Quebec and Canada, we have no choice but to welcome new immigrants, he said. [Mais] Lack of rigor. I think we are more into ideology and dogma than facts.
Criticizing the lack of dialogue with the provinces on the issue, Mr. Brunel-Duceppe suggested that Quebec’s political weight could be reduced if the restrictions were maintained.
“Quebec’s reception capacity is different compared to other provinces, obviously because there is a francization challenge that other provinces don’t have,” he said.
