The sliding operation of the overpass in the Cap-de-la-Madeleine sector in Trois-Rivières will be carried out entirely at night from Friday to Saturday.

As the first tests were inconclusive, the working method had to be completely changed.

In this way, the 430-tonne structure is moved 25 meters to its final position, supported by metal containers on two rigid self-propelled hydraulic trailers, each with 14 axles and 112 wheels.

“We see that the lifting equipment is mounted on containers, on which there are transfer beams and various pieces of wood resting under each beam of the deck. Subsequently, this equipment goes on wheels. The trailer is lifted by 14 axles and we are 20 or 25 meters away from its current position. Let’s move towards it,” explained Anne-Sophie Richard, project manager for Transports Quebec.

One night is enough to build a viaduct.

This is the second time in Quebec that we have started doing things like this, with the goal of reducing the impact of a construction site on automobile traffic.
