Truckers and protesters have been blocking the streets outside Parliament in Ottawa for two weeks tomorrow.

The protest quickly turned into an occupation.

Justin Trudeau needs to find a solution. He made few comments on the public square. Some will say that it is better this way. For when he speaks, he puts oil on the fire.

The ups and downs among Conservatives have allowed Justin Trudeau not to be in the spotlight.

However, the calm restored among the blues, before new heartbreak during the leadership, and the smashing exit of the Member for Louis-Hébert, Joël Lightbound, make it more and more heated for Mr. Trudeau.

Division

Mr. Lightbound has clearly identified the problem with his leader’s outings. Mr. Trudeau has a hard time rising above the fray when he talks about protesters and truckers.

For the prime Minister, there are the good guys and the bad guys. But it doesn’t work like that!

This division was at the heart of the election strategy for the Liberals last fall. Unfortunately, Mr. Trudeau has forgotten that a prime minister governs for all Canadians, even for those who do not think like him.

The Member for Louis-Hébert also mentioned that a deconfinement plan should be announced. An exercise that would probably lead to a way out of this crisis.

Mediation

For his part, the Mayor of Ottawa has asked the federal government to appoint a mediator.

This is a perfect role for Chrystia Freeland. She is involved in all the cases, she is able to take care of that one too.

Before making a deconfinement plan, Ms. Freeland would do well to meet with the protesters in order to listen to them.
