La Tuk declared the mayor ineligible

Law Tuk Mayer once again questioned the legitimacy of Pierre-David Tremble. After Quebec’s Chief Electoral Officer (DGEQ) in 2020, the decision will be made by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MOM).

In a correspondence addressed to the city, the ministry formally stated: The current mayor of La Tuc, a neighboring municipality of La Bocnais, would be in an illegal position if he ran for mayor again next November.

At the heart of the dispute is Mr Tremblay’s residence, which blocks the two municipalities. MAMH approves the conclusions of DGEQ’s investigation. The latter ruled that he was ineligible to apply in 2017, as the mayor’s residence was clear toward La Bostonnais.

In his letter, Deputy Minister of Municipal Affairs Frederick Guay warns Mr. Tremble: “I think you are aware of the implications of being a candidate for and elected to the city council of La Tuk in the autumn of 2021. Without qualification. I count on your cooperation in making the necessary decisions in accordance with the applicable legal framework ”. If the main interested party is unwilling to comment, through a press release, Citi said it is exploring its legal options.

For their part, Mayor Tremble’s former political opponents were not surprised by the ministry’s remoteness, although they found it a little too late.

“I was told four years later, Michelle, that you have submitted yourself legally, you have lost to someone who is not legal,” lamented Michelle Pronovost, a successful candidate for city mayor in 2017.

For those who instigated the petition to remove Chief Justice Tremble, nothing has been decided yet. The mayor can still reserve surprises, preceded by Lucy Fortin.
