About 100 companies focused on new agricultural technologies will occupy 1.2 million square feet of space at the former Electrolux plant in L’Osompsion in five years.
This is the goal of Joan Agtech project director Marilo Sir, who is looking for a City of El Assumption real estate partner to ensure the construction of a major building of more than 400,000 square feet.
“We are focused on becoming a world-class agricultural innovation zone,” Sir said in an interview.
The project, which has been under consideration for three years in collaboration with City of L Assomption, will become a business zone dedicated to companies in new technologies for indoor cultivation, agriculture and plant bioproducts in the fields.
“We are in talks with many companies and partners who are willing to come and settle in our area,” said El Assompsion Mayor Sebastian Nadeau. We aim to start construction by the end of 2021. “
Mr. Nadayu swears that the enormous zone of agricultural technology in terms of noise and dust will not bother the citizens living around. There is also a secondary school nearby.
To do this, the project includes the construction of a 25-meter-wide green corridor where greenery, active transportation and park games will be planted.
“The green corridor will have a buffer zone effect,” the mayor assured. Trucks cannot drive behind buildings. ”
Mr Nadeyu said it was not a question of “a huge industrialist with big machines and big pollution”.
The site also aims to connect greenhouses on an uneven level, according to the City, on the roof.
The agricultural technology complex also includes lawyers who specialize in patent and intellectual property.
“We want to bring together professionals around businesses,” Mr. Nadayu said.
Recall that 10 years after announcing the intention to close the plant, in the summer of 2020 Sweden multinational Electrolux gave the land to the city of L’Asompsion. About 1,300 jobs were lost.
Hosted many agricultural companies (farm implements, oil furnaces, tools, etc.) depending on the age and owners.
