“Lipomodeling is now supported by health insurance. In a press release, the French Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (SOFCEP) recalls the occasion of Pink October, now reimbursing fat transfers as part of breast reconstruction.
Where did this technique come from?
Introduced in the 1990s, fat transfer (also known as lipomodeling, lipofilling or adipose tissue autografting) is primarily a facial treatment to help AIDS patients. The procedure was made possible by the work of New York plastic surgeon Sidney Coleman, who first designed and standardized the procedure. Launched in 1998, Dr. Emmanuel, head of plastic surgery at the Lyon Beard Cancer Prevention Center in Lyon, has been optimizing late, lipomodeling breasts.
Since January 2015, the High Authority of Health has confirmed its use for the chest. And from October 1, 2017, only within the framework of reconstructive surgery, lipomodeling will be covered with new codes for this intervention by health insurance, known as CAM (General Classification of Medical Actions) “Autologous adipose tissue”.
