McDonald's CEO announced layoffs

McDonald’s plans to cut some of its staff, CEO Chris Kempczynski said in a memo to employees Friday.

“We will be evaluating staff roles and processes in certain parts of the organization, and there will be tough discussions and decisions ahead,” warns Kempczynski.

“Some programs are prioritized or stopped altogether. This will help us move faster as a company, while reducing our overall costs and freeing up resources to invest in our growth,” he added.

The announcement comes as McDonald’s has been able to hold its own during the pandemic.

People ordered more takeout in the early days of COVID-19, and sales have increased over the past year due to inflation.

But the company doesn’t intend to rest on its laurels.

Mr. The plan outlined by Kempszinski aims to break down some internal barriers, encourage innovation and tighten work around business priorities.

To achieve these plans, the company will announce layoffs, Kempczynski said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Friday.

“Some of the jobs that exist today will move or disappear,” he said.

McDonald’s plans to announce future staffing plans by April 3.
