Michael Jean received the city's most prestigious award, the Ottawa Key

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, former Governor General of Canada Michael Jean was presented with a key to the city of Ottawa.

The city’s mayor, Jim Watson, on Tuesday met with Ms. Jr. Watson, who has served as a journalist, as the 27th Governor-General of Canada, as UNESCO’s special envoy to Haiti, and as the third secretary-general for La Francophone. Highlighted Jean’s amazing career.

“Michaëlle Jean had a great career, served our country with kindness, courageously promoted peace and worked in support of women and youth,” Mr Watson said, adding that he was honored to be able to provide such specialization.

Michael Jean, who has worked for more than 10 years in the women’s movement in Quebec, has helped build a network of emergency shelters for abused women and their children.

“I was so moved and touched so much by the respect you are doing for me [en me présentant] Crucial to the city of Ottawa, where my family and I set up residence and now suppress the roots. Ottawa is one of the most important chapters in my life. This city is part of me, ”said Michael Jean in a speech.

Ms. Jean took advantage of her speech to offer her support to the Ukrainian people who have been under attack from Russia for almost two weeks.

“International Women’s Day is a global day established to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This year’s theme is #EliminatingPrejudice, which aims to imagine a world of gender equality,” the city of Ottawa said in a press release.
