(Quebec) Quebec wants to create a Ministry of Cyber Security and Digital, but is already facing a labor shortage and is looking for 1000 computer scientists.
“Currently, in the state, we have more than 1000 unfilled positions, but it’s not just in cybersecurity, it is in total,” Digital Government Transformation Minister Eric Carer underlined at a press conference on Thursday.
Mr Khair presented his bill to create the Ministry of Cybersecurity and Digital, which he said was the first of its kind in North America. This new ministry will be the product of Quebec’s “integration” of Infrastructure Technology and the sub-secretariat of Conceil du Treasure, which is responsible for information technology.
“The Ministry is required to ensure the design, construction and maintenance of collective systems. Digital recognition is a good example of that, ”Cairo said. The same goes for government cybersecurity: it is a “collective responsibility,” he said.
Mr. Cair’s first goal is to deliver its digital identity project in 2022. It allows citizens to access many documents issued by the state, for example a birth certificate or a health insurance card. . Quebec is also considering allowing biometric authentication with face or fingerprint reading.
