LThe Department of Health announced on Tuesday that a person receiving the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine may receive a second dose of the Modrana vaccine.

“This decision is based on the opinion of public health experts and the recommendations of Quebec’s Immunization Committee (CIQ),” the ministry said.

The province of Quebec will receive large shipments of the Modarana vaccine in the coming days. Delivery from the United States is expected to reach 2.6 million doses, especially during the weeks of June 28 and July 5.

The decision comes in the wake of the fact that the quantity of Pfizer vaccines distributed to Canada will be “low” in the coming weeks.

For the second dose, the CIQ states that if the mRNA vaccine used in the first shot is not immediately available, a person may be given a different mRNA vaccine.

MRNA vaccines are then considered interchangeable and the two doses received are considered valid.

An eight-week interval between two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine is still recommended. Keep in mind that two doses of vaccine are needed to ensure better efficacy and long-term protection.
