About 150 firefighters were dispatched to respond to a large fire that broke out in a residential building Saturday evening in the Dollard-des-Ormax area of much of Montreal.
Montreal Fire Department (SIM) Section Chief Patrick Furnell said two buildings on Brunswick Boulevard were engulfed in flames before 9 p.m.
Residents of 149 homes were evacuated from the premises. One person was also inconvenienced by the fire and was cared for by Argentes-Sante.
A large cloud of black smoke appeared in the surrounding area as firefighters continued to try to control the blaze, just before 10:30 p.m.
There were also four Red Cross volunteers to help the residents, and twenty houses were damaged, Red Cross spokeswoman Carol du Salt said late in the evening.
She said there would also be a bus at the scene of the fire to greet the victims.
