Quebec-Lévis crossing banned for vehicles: “It’s not encouraging”

Motorists will no longer be able to use the Quebec-Lévis ferry until further notice. Only pedestrians can cross from one side of the river to the other.

At the entrance to the crossing, in Levis, motorists encountered a poster warning of “Vehicle Service Interruption”.

This situation is illustrated by an incident involving a ferry at the L’Isle-aux-Coudres–Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive crossing.

As the only means of transport connecting the two municipalities, the Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) had no choice but to request the transfer of one of the two vessels used for the Québec-Lévis crossing to L’Isle. -aux- couders.

A second ship assigned to this crossing is currently undergoing technical evaluation, so users must find a plan B.

Motorists who normally use the crossing have to take a 28 km detour to cross the river. Usually the journey is one kilometer.

Although the Greater Quebec City area has a lot of traffic problems, residents of the area would have done well without this temporary closure.

“It’s still a service, it’s practical for me […]. It would be ‘fun’ if both boats could operate normally again,” said a user who met with TVA Novelles.

“It is not encouraging. There seems to be no will to maintain the ferry service […]. When we think of the 3rd link, we already have a link that is not being used in the right way!”, also raised a citizen.

Others recalled that the construction of the Quebec-Lévis tunnel, the flagship project of the Legault government, would not happen soon, so maintaining the ferry service was vital.
