Hydro-Québec has selected seven renewable energy generation projects totaling 1,300 megawatts after two tenders launched in 2021. The average cost of these new supplies is 6.1 cents per kilowatt hour.
Hydro-Québec, in its power generation operations, was one of the successful bidders following this call for tenders. It will supply 159 MW out of the 480 MW called for tenders for renewable energy from all sources. Other projects selected are wind farms in eastern Quebec and the Mégantic region.
Two more wind power projects totaling 302 MW have been selected out of the 300 MW call for tenders reserved for this energy source. These are projects submitted by EDF Renewable Energy and Algonquin Power Trust with their partners. Wind turbines are manufactured by Vestas and Enercon.
After calling for two tenders, the promoters of the seven tenders selected will take less than 1 month to supply electricity to Hydro-Québec by contract.er December 2026. The average cost of these new supplies, 6.1 cents per kilowatt hour, does not include transmission and distribution of electricity to its customer.
