Samsung recently revealed that its Dolby Vision HDR replacement, the HDR10 +, is now compatible with the latest visual format, HDR10 + gaming, and the latest video game display technologies.
During its final Samsung Developer Conference 2021, the Korean manufacturer unveiled its new HDR10 + gaming technology, which was offered as an alternative to the Dolby Vision HDR format.
HDR10 + gaming, specifications
It will be available from 2022 and we already know that it is VRR compatible (cf Photo above), Provides automatic alignment of the HDR signal (probably HGiG, based on HDR Gaming Interest Group, Samsung member), and low latency tone mapping (no effect on input log).
HDR10 + sur PS5 and Xbox Series X / S?
This derivative of the HDR10 + format is optimized to improve new game consoles as well as cloud gaming. But one question remains: will the PS5 and / or Xbox Series X / S adopt this new format? The answer today is negative, knowing that Sony has never been a big fan of HDR10 + and that Microsoft recently activated Dolby Vision HDR on its latest console.
So we say that this new extension will probably go along with it Samsung’s new cloud gaming initiative.
