“It’s a simple gesture, it costs nothing, but, honestly, it makes sense to those who hear the message. They have the impression that we are examining them,” Mayor Regis LaBeoum said Monday.

The head of the SPVQ, the director of the fire service and the Archbishop of Quebec all agreed to the meeting to pay tribute to the workers who have been at the forefront since the outbreak and who will be there during the holidays.

Sparks on the NHL

The mayor accused councilors of looking for votes and unnecessarily trying to “create hope”, clearly ruling that the project was unlikely to succeed.

“Please, Mr. Russo … I know it’s election year, but it’s not worth it to be ridiculous. We do not put the time, money or effort into it,” Mr. Lobim replied.
