Will Smith, who won the Best Actor Oscar shortly after the incident for his role in The Williams Method, has since publicly apologized to Chris Rock and the Academy.
But many Oscar-winning companies in Hollywood have called for his violent act to be punished, which they say has unjustly obscured other winners that night.
In a letter to thousands of academy members, the leaders expressed “outrage” over the incident.
The letter, signed by Academy President David Rubin and the General, read: Manager Dan Hudson.
“We are shocked and outraged that these moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and malicious behavior of a competitor on stage,” they continue.
It’s a joke made by Chris Rock about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head suffering from alopecia – a disease that causes severe hair loss, which she revealed a few years ago – which led to the scandal.
Will Smith suddenly came on stage and slapped Chris Rock under the dumb eyes of celebrities and spectators.
The 53-year-old actor shouted at her, “Leave my wife’s name out of your mouth!” Once back in his chair.
He apologized on Instagram, apologizing to Chris Rock and the managers: “I did the wrong thing and I did the wrong thing. My behavior at the Oscars last night was unacceptable and unforgivable. “
“To be very clear, we condemn Mr. Smith’s actions,” he said in a letter from Oscar Academy leaders promising to implement “appropriate measures” in accordance with the organization’s regulations.
“It should follow a formal process, which may take a few weeks,” the letter said.
According to American media, the board of directors of the Academy of Oscars will meet Wednesday evening to review the celebration as it does every year. According to CNN, slapping Will Smith is their “top priority”.
