The emergency department at Lachin Hospital was partially closed

The emergency and intensive care units at Lachin Hospital in Montreal are open only daytime from November 8 indefinitely.

The decision was made due to lack of staff to complete the schedules. Mainly among respiratory therapists and nurses.

MUHC told TVA Nouvelles‌ tried for a few months to lend the employees to the emergency room, but it did not work.

“LaSalle and Lakeshore hospitals are not far away and are clearly our downtown sites. We are going to see everything to ensure that no one knocks on the closed door in the evening or at night and we can steer them safely,” explains Dr. Eva Sidorovich, director of professional services at MUHC.

The doctors at the establishment described the situation as unacceptable.

“How can we justify closing the emergency at 4pm and 4:15pm when a guy comes in with a heart attack? What do we do? He’s going to knock on the door, he’s going in a taxi, he’s waiting for an ambulance?” Dr. Paul Sabah, president of the Council of Physicians of Lachin Hospital, condemned.
