CAA-Quebec has been flooded with calls over the past few days due to the heat.
Repair requests multiplied this week, especially in the Quebec region
During the extreme heat, CAA-Quebec saw a 15% increase in its requests for roadside assistance in Quebec.
This represents between 300 and 500 calls per day. On average, 2,000 requests for help are made in the province on a typical summer day.
Vehicle batteries are especially taxed in very hot climates, and due to temperatures under the hood of vehicles reaching 150 degrees, they are much more than in winter.
The number of battery replacement services has almost tripled this week. This week there are 116. In previous weeks, it was about 40 replacements per week.
“It’s very hard on vehicles, especially vehicles that have been maintained a little bit better. It affects the engine and the radiator. The vehicle overheats,” explained CAA-Quebec team leader Charles Laroche.
“In batteries, there are lead plates. It can twist them or unsolder them completely,” he adds.
