Saint-Jerome Mayor Sophie Saint-Galeis announced her resignation on Monday, a month and a half after taking office in February.
Citi explained in a brief statement that the mayor announced his resignation Monday, citing “personal, health and family” reasons.
Mrs. Saint-Gallice inherited the position of mayor on February 5, replacing former mayor Stefan Maher. Du Quebec was found guilty by the Commission for Corrupt Electoral Practices and later had to resign.
More specifically, Mr Maher said during the 2017 municipal elections, two municipal councilors were given prestigious positions, instead they had to leave politics.
Maher was forced to resign on December 31 after his appeal against the verdict was upheld, according to a November 30 ruling. Despite everything, he received a disbursement allowance of just 000 36,000, the Journal de Montreal reported in February.
Saint-Jerome municipal councilors have agreed to elect one of them as mayor until elections are held next fall. Only then did Sophie Saint-Galileo submit her candidacy.
