Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said in a statement that George Floyd refused to defraud the police department from protesting.
Frye was asked directly by a protest organizer on Saturday whether the police would return as demonstrators marched to his home. News station WCCO reported.
“I’m not about to eradicate the entire police force. I’ll be honest about it,” Frey told protesters.
In his reply, there were slogans and slogans, “Go home, Jacob, go home.” The video was released on Twitter.
Meanwhile, several members of the city council have pledged to “remove” the police department following Floyd’s death.
“We’re going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department and replace it with a new new public safety,” Council President Lisa Bender Wrote on Twitter.
Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar, who attended the rally, said the WCCO is pleased to find that the police department at the Minneapolis City Council is “inherently beyond reform.”
There have been calls for the abolition of city police after the death of a black man in Minneapolis after a white policeman, Derek Chuvv, pressed his knee to his neck for several minutes.
