Although hybrid working offers workplace flexibility, new research suggests that work-life balance can be seriously compromised with this way of working.
According to a survey by American capital management technology company Seridan, 74% of participants said that access to teleworking would make taking vacations easier.
The problem, however, is that this access to work from home means the workload is likely to follow them everywhere, reports CTV News.
An online poll conducted by The Harris Poll found that fewer respondents (47%) in Canada, the US and the UK – would avoid their workload altogether while on vacation.
Half of Canadians admit to having trouble disconnecting from their job, while in the United States, only 41% of respondents leave their work at home when they’re not on schedule.
According to Seridan’s report, “taking vacations is a good thing, and managers will contact them directly if there is an emergency.”
Financial problems
Another problem with getting vacations is lack of funds. According to the survey, 70% of all those who want or plan to take a vacation this summer say that financial factors are making it difficult to achieve their plans.
About 34% of respondents said travel had become too expensive, mostly due to inflation, while 32% said they could not afford to take time off from work.
Additionally, 17% of participants said their job was too busy to take vacation time, and 15% said no one was available to fill in for them when they were away.
