Third link: Duclos is open to financing only part of it

Franకోois Legalt asks Justin Trudeau for support for 40% of the Quebec-Lewis tunnel costs., Federal Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said they were ready to fund only the public transport component of the project.

At present, the President of the Canadian Government’s Treasury Board explains that no federal infrastructure program can finance highway projects.

Although Prime Minister Franకోois Legalt has advised his colleague Justin Trudeau to send all documents related to his request for financial assistance to Ottawa as soon as possible, the official request has not been studied or received.

He also wants to consider the various environmental assessments that need to be made before starting the construction of the project.

“We have to do things in order,” said a federal member for Quebec.

However, he showed openness to federal support for the public transport component of the Quebec-Lewis Tunnel.

Mr. Duclos is optimistic about the outcome of the ongoing negotiations for the purchase of the Quebec Bridge by Ottawa.

“This issue has been dragging on for 30 years,” Mr Duclos admitted, reiterating his full confidence in his government-appointed negotiator, Yvonne Charest.
