Urgent / Bank / Haiti: Services for SPIH and PRONAP have been temporarily suspended, BRH has announced

The Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) announced on June 14 that it was experiencing technical issues temporarily preventing services related to SPIH and ProNap.

SPIH is a Haitian interbank payment system that allows funds to be transferred from one bank account to another.

This suspension of SPIH service has very serious consequences for banking operations in Haiti.

Indeed, thanks to this Haitian Interbank Payments System (SPIH), an account holder at Bank X can transfer funds to another Bank Y or another financial institution of the system.

Similarly, SPIH allows state enterprises to credit the account of their employees at the time of payroll.

At this time, we do not know how long the shutdown of SPIH service will last.

However, some need to reconnect with the check and clearing times required in bank transfers, as SPIH’s role is to execute interbank payments in henna or US dollars during business hours with funds deposited in financial institutions’ settlement accounts at the bank. Republic of Haiti (BRH).

As for services related to ProNap (National Payment Processor), it is a debit card issued by banks that allows its holder to carry out transactions.

Holders of these debit cards from banking institutions can withdraw at ATMs bearing the “PRONAP” logo.

This is possible thanks to the creation of a platform called PRONAP (National Payment Processor) by BRH. According to a promotional spot from BRH, the platform was created to facilitate transactions in the financial system in Haiti.

All Pronap related banking services are also suspended

However, BRH announced that check payment services will continue as usual.
