Vaccination: The recommended interval between two doses was increased from 16 to 8 weeks

The recommended interval for all vaccines given in Quebec has been reduced to 16 to 8 weeks for the majority of the population.

The Ministry of Health announced this in a press release on Thursday morning.

The decision came after updating the views of the Quebec Immunization Committee (CIQ).

“So for mRNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna), the recommended interval for most people is 16 to 8 weeks or more, in order to achieve a higher immune response. It is important to bring forward a second dose of the vaccine, as the elderly are at higher risk of developing complications from COVID-19 according to the agenda they have established, ”the report said.

For those with immunity or dialysis, a second dose should be given four weeks later.

The Legalt government should unveil its plan for the administration of these second doses early Thursday afternoon.

Quebec aims to vaccinate 75% of the population aged 12 and over by August 31.
