Quebec’s goal: to vaccinate all young people with two doses over the summer to ensure face-to-face re-entry to all levels from preschool to high school.
We expect 75% of young people to receive the first dose in June and the second dose in August. Minister Daniel McCann explained that if the vaccination campaign goes smoothly, all CEGEPs and university students will be able to return in person by August. She specifically mentioned that the vaccine target is 75% for this segment of the population.
For his part, the Minister of Education will raise the possibility of seeing the graduation balls this year, under certain circumstances, with public health approval. Details of these events will be revealed later at an upcoming press conference.
Children 12 to 14 years old need parental permission. Older people can decide for themselves whether they want to receive the vaccine or not.
The 12- to 17-year-olds represent 530,000 young people, who make up 6% of the population.
