On May 17, Donald Gorske described his golden wedding anniversary as “the best sandwich in the world”.
He says his honeymoon began with the famous fast food chain sandwich when he bought his first car on May 17, 1972.
“I went straight to McDonald’s, had my first three Big Macs, and then got in my car and ate them,” he explained. At the time, it seemed like ‘I was probably going to eat this for the rest of my life’.
Two Big Macs a day
American eats two hamburgers almost every day – no fries. He went on to set a Guinness World Record for the largest Big Mac eater in 1999.
When he broke his own record in 2021 and surpassed the 30,000 burger threshold, the 68-year-old told Guinness World Records managers, “I love burgers like no other food.
To properly document its feat, “King of the Big Mac” has been keeping a year-round classification of all containers and packaging of flavored sandwiches since 1972, including receipts.
When will it reach the 40,000 Big Mac mark? In 14 years, according to his estimates. He was then 78 years old.
