In a word, all the major components are integrated into the minuscule chip – allowing data to travel shorter distances and use less power, which makes the smartphone faster and increases battery life. This is a very (very) simplified explanation, but what you really need to know is that the A14 Bionic is a real beast.
It has up to 50 percent faster CPU and GPU compared to the fastest competing smartphone chips. The A14 Bionic also features a 16-core neural engine – hopefully designed to handle faces in the handset, such as spotting faces in the Photos app, pointing to iOS apps all day based on your habits, and more.
Apple claims that its A14 bionic has an 80 percent increase in performance and can complete 11 trillion operations per second. Android is not compatible with it … until the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, which uses a Huawei-designed chipset built with a 5nm process – but has no access to YouTube, Google Maps or the Google Play Store, and will launch in the coming weeks.
4) iPhone 12 features you may not see on Android: Smart data mode
5G is clearly the future. This next generation mobile signal allows super-speed downloads and less latency. Even better, in a crowded place, 5G smartphones like the packed football stadium, the sale gig or the festival will not lose speed – unspeakable for 4G. For those unfamiliar, until recently, most smartphone displays were 60Hz, meaning they refreshed the image 60 times per second. Unfortunately, Apple has decided to keep the refresh rate on the iPhone 12 Series at 60 Hz. It’s a shame that Apple is well aware of how clever 120Hz panels are – one of the company’s pioneers when this technology was introduced to the iPad Pro series years ago. Due to the shared “Pro” branding between this premium tablet and the iPhone 12 Pro, it seems odd that Apple did not at least include it in the £ 999 + smartphone.
