Eric Duheim, the elected leader of the Quebec Conservative Party, said he knew his journey in the 2022 election would be fraught with danger, but hoped to bring the political structure forward.
The host and columnist, but also a former political adviser, believes the Conservatives have everything they need to bring about a dose of change in the Quebec parliamentary landscape.
Duhaim said he was encouraged by the fact that more than 10,000 people voted in his party’s virtual leadership race, which ended on Saturday, despite his party winning less than 1.5% of the vote in the 2018 election.
“You took the Conservative Party collectively from third party status. We are really a party like no other party. Membership, In terms of base, in terms of activists, ”Mr Duhaim said in a video conference on Sunday.
“I didn’t sign up for a year. I see this as a decade’s work. I want the Conservative Party to grow under my leadership, ”he said, adding that this growth could take time.
Mario Dumont’s former political adviser, the Democratic du Quebec (ADQ), has not yet chosen which constituency he will run in.
“I will not hide from you that I will go to a place where I have more chances to be elected,” he declared, noting that he would settle mostly in the Quebec City neighborhood. For me, it is very important that I enter the National Assembly regardless of the results of the coming elections. ”
Unite the Conservatives
Duhaim has confirmed that the Conservative Party will have a candidate in 125 Quebec rides in 2022. Three years ago, they were only 101 to represent Conservative colors.
Going TGO leader Adrian Pouliet said the new master on board will continue to serve for party interests. As he has tried in recent years, Mr. Duheim wants to unite the Conservatives.
“I don’t like to dismiss people. I did not go into politics to remove the conservatives, I am here to include them. We will now try to bring all the machines together so that the party emerges from there in a united and strong, large number, ”he declared.
The four parties represented in the National Assembly (Coalition Future Quebec, Party Cubacois, Liberal Party of Quebec and Quebec Solidier) all thought the same way and therefore he only described himself as the “true curator” too.
