Doctors in Laval believe that they have found a solution to reduce the waiting list to find a family doctor and that includes hiring nurses.

Currently, more than 800,000 Cubans do not have a family doctor.
At the Polyclinic Center DL in Laval, the 15 physicians in the Family Medicine Group have an average of 1,300 patients.
If they can see a lot, it’s according to them, because they can rely on the help of 10 nurses.
“It simply came to our notice then. In my opinion, it plays a major role in the care of patients, ”said Dr. Hannah Nichols.
Nurses see an average of forty patients a day for first-line follow-ups and follow-ups for chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
As soon as she finishes examining her patient, the doctor receives the information and can intervene regularly. They work together all the time.
“We’re not talking about the Family Doctor providing care anymore, it’s group work,” the Family Doctor explains.
According to him, this method allows to clear the Quebec waiting list.
