Both hotels offer homeless services

The city of Montreal announced Thursday that it is seeking two hotels in the Ville-Mary borough to accommodate homeless people.

First, the Chrome Hotel on Rene-Lewesk Boulevard allows accommodation for homeless people due to COVID-19. The Center-Sud-de-L-de-Montreal and Old Brewery Mission’s Integrated University Health and Social Service Center (CIUSSS)’s location provides more than 100 locations.

“We are relieved by the support we have received from public partners to significantly increase the reception capacity of the Isolation Center for the homeless. The pandemic needs such expansion and we are therefore excited to continue our close cooperation with our partners in these new locations, where we will continue to support and protect the hypervulnerable population, ”said Director-Director President and Chief. Old Brewy Mission, James Hughes.

In the case of the Hotel des Arts in Saint-Dominic, it offers 50 emergency accommodation for homeless indigenous people from February. The site project is managed by the Native People of Quebec (PAQ), which will move its services to an establishment near the Milton-Park sector, where culturally appropriate and secure services are important. The PAQ campus in the Guy-Favreau Complex will be vacated and once again available for the health network.

“The new site will enable PAQ to provide a wider range of culturally appropriate, referral and support services that improve the health and well-being of community members, especially housing, wellness, mental health and transportation to the community,” said Heather Johnston, Executive Director of the organization.

The mayor of Montreal, Valerie Plante, assured the city that “no one will be left out”.

“With the arrival of the Omicron variant, we are requesting two hotels to quickly set up appropriate and secure sites to meet the growing needs,” Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante said in a press release, emphasizing this effort. Those who have been working without leaving anyone behind since the epidemic began.
