Instagram and Twitter restrict Kanye West accounts after anti-Semitic posts

Instagram and Twitter have restricted the accounts of American rapper Kanye West, also known as “Ye,” after he posted anti-Semitic comments.

A Twitter spokesperson told AFP on Sunday that her account had been locked for violating the social network’s rules.

And a spokesman for Instagram’s parent company Meta told AFP the group had removed content from Ye’s account – without specifying which – for violating its rules.

Instagram has also restricted his account, according to the same source, possibly preventing him from posting, writing comments or sending private messages.

Kanye West, who is black, is causing a stir on social media by wearing a T-shirt proclaiming “White Lives Matter” during Paris Fashion Week.

It is a diversion of the popular slogan “Black Lives Matter” (“Black Lives Matter”), a symbol of anti-racist demonstrations in the summer of 2020 in the United States and a focus of the nameless movement.

On Instagram, Ye, 45, posted screenshots of conversations with rapper Diddy on Friday, who criticized the T-shirt and his message.

“I will use you as an example to show the Jewish people who told me to call that no one can threaten or influence me,” wrote Kanye West. The publication has since been removed, but copies can still be found on the Internet.

Then on Twitter, he said he was going to attack Jews in a post that is no longer available, suggesting that it violated the social network’s rules.

The American Jewish Committee (AJC) accused Yeh of promoting “Jew-hatred”.

“Kanye West needs to find a way to get his point across without resorting to anti-Semitism,” she said.

Controversy-prone Ye, who suffers from bipolar disorder, was banned from Instagram posts for 24 hours in March in the wake of his divorce from reality star Kim Kardashian.

The rapper is also on the verge of parting ways with the Adidas brand, which wants to “re-evaluate” its collaboration with the artist.
