AG Barr sends tactical units of prisons to Miami, Washington

An agency spokesman said Attorney General William Barr had been ordered to send special tactical units from the Prisons Bureau to respond to protests in Washington, DC and Miami.

The units that make up the BOP’s special crisis management teams – “highly trained tactical units capable of responding to prison disruption and helping other law enforcement agencies in times of emergency,” BOP spokesman Scott Taylor said in a statement.

The units include disruption control teams, which are trained to handle crowd control.

“At the request of the Attorney General, the BOP has sent teams to Miami, Florida and Washington, D.C.,” Taylor said in the statement.

The company would not say how many officers they sent to cities, or where those officers would normally work.

President Trump on Monday threatened to mobilize the army to quell protests and catastrophic uprisings in the city just days after George Floyd’s death in police custody.

Trump has enacted a law since 1807 to send the last used army of President George H.W. Bush to stop LA riot after police beat Rodney King.

Trump said on Monday that he had mobilized the Rebellion Act of 1807, “to mobilize all available federal resources, civilians and the military, to stop riots and looting.”
