For years, people have referred to smartphones as “the computer in your pocket”. Now, Apple is literally taking it.
Apple will unveil on its website at 1pm on Tuesday the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops that will run on the same process chip used by the company on the iPhone and new iPads called the “A14 Bionic”. It will be the third largest production event of the fall after the launch of the new iPads and iPhones.
You may ask, is the computer slow with the power of the iPhone chip? Can the new Mac still process heavy duty video and photo processing applications as it did with the previous chip made by computer powerhouse Intel?
Tim Bazarin, a longtime analyst who has covered Apple since his 1980s as president of Creative Strategies, says “actually.” “If it’s not fast, Apple will not do it.”

On Apple’s website, the company boasts that the newly released iPad Air, with the A14 chip, is “faster than most PC laptops”. And for the iPhone, the chip reads “Forty percent more transistors increase speed while increasing capacity for greater battery life.”
Daniel Eves, an analyst with Wedbash Securities, said the processors “are optimized for the company’s unique heavy – duty power features of laptops” and take about two years to integrate into the entire Mac product line.
Apple computers start at 99,999 for the basic MacBook Air, 2,299 for the 13-inch MacBook, and 3,2,399 for the 16-inch MacBook. More powerful iMac computers start at 0,099 for the 21-inch version, $ 5,000 for the iMac Pro and 9,5,999 for the Mac Pro computer.
(By not paying the license fee for every computer sold by Intel, Bazarin says, you can start looking at lower prices for the Apple Max, perhaps $ 50- $ 100.)
Despite offering computers at higher prices than its rivals, Apple COVID-19 has been on the roll, most recently announcing record quarterly sales for iPad and Mac computers.
“Apple continues to see waves of demand for its iPad and Max, as more and more consumers expect the WFH trend to continue for the future, with more emphasis on the virtual event this week,” Ives said.
In the revenue statement, Apple sold more Macs than ever before in the July / August / September quarter, learning from the work shift and the home shift that fueled the coronavirus epidemic.
Apple claims to have sold $ 9 billion worth of Max. It was $ 6.9 billion in the previous quarter.
IPad sales also grew, with $ 6.8 billion in revenue, up from $ 4.6 billion in the previous quarter.
Sales of the flagship iPhone have been successful this quarter, but traditionally newer iPhones released in September have been delayed due to manufacturing issues. The new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro released on October 23 are not included in the earnings report.
The other two new iPhones, the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max, will be released on Friday.
