Desjardins warns its members that a new phishing attempt containing their image will be transmitted via email. The message in question promises refunds on its members’ recent transactions, as a way of thanking them for their significant loyalty. Unfortunately, this is actually an attempt to pull off bank fraud, where hackers redirect their victims to a fake login page to get their hands on their access. The fake email, more realistic than ever, is in credit union cooperative colors and contains some inaccuracies that threaten to compromise the security of many accounts.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first or last time fraudsters have tried to impersonate Desjardins or another well-known financial institution.
You can often use my tips for detecting phishing and scamming attempts to protect yourself from it, in some cases, fake emails are so good that it is difficult to avoid getting caught.
It is for this reason that it is important to know the credentials and modus operandi of fraudsters so that we don’t get caught, as in this real phishing email.
Another refund offer
Waves of different messages containing Desjardins’ image have circulated over the years, and each time, it’s for the same reason: The people behind this email are trying to connect to our bank account and steal our information. money

Overview of email received by some Desjardins members.
A phishing email should be mistaken
Even if some credentials betray a scam, a refund may or may not be offered The recipient’s email addressThe best way to distinguish a genuine from a fake e-mail is to leave a very well put together e-mail.
Be it the logo, the font, the colors, all the elements are there, and everything has Desjardins’ effigy to sow doubt.
Unlike some scams, there are so few spelling errors that it doesn’t alert us on the spot.
The hyperlink we’re invited to click is embedded in words, meaning we have no clue about the site it’s directing us to.
Naturally, this ends up on a malicious site that allows fraudsters to steal our information. This is where we see how important it is to have a good protection suite, as clicking on a link will block the site in question.
What to do if you receive a fraudulent email with a picture of Desjardins
As always, be careful with this type of email. At all times, we must look at the sender’s email address, the links they want to redirect us to, and the way the message is written to know if it is phishing.
In such a case, if we receive the message, we may delete it and block the recipient’s email address so that they can no longer write to us.
Finally, I won’t repeat it enough, but in case of doubt, it’s always a good idea to contact the organization here at Desjardins so they can confirm or deny whether this is a legitimate communication. .
Honestly it only takes a few minutes, but it can actually save us hundreds, even thousands of dollars.
