COVID-19: 10 hospitals in "critical" condition in Quebec

The growth in the hospital has been steady and the situation at 10 hospitals in the province is critical, Health Minister Christian Dubey announced on Friday along with Director of Public Health Dr Horacio Rare.

The minister urged the people not to come to the emergency room or clinic unless it is really necessary to avoid putting already tremendous pressure on the system.

Scheduled appointments and follow-ups with patients continue.

“The steady increase in new cases has had implications for the number of hospital admissions in many parts of Quebec and this is of great concern to us. Our room for maneuvering is dwindling and the pressure on our network is increasing. We ask people, above all, if your health workers tell you that there are other opportunities available to you, let them understand, ”the health minister said.

Load shedding continues in many hospitals, Minister Dubey underlined at a press conference.

An average of 20% to 30% of hospital staff were relieved. Some hospitals have low load shedding, while others have more; Up to 40%.

In addition, the vaccination campaign set up this week is going well: 21 sites across Quebec should be ready by Monday.

Priority will be given to beneficiaries in CHSLDs and workers in these care settings. Many voices are being raised so that all health workers can get the vaccine, including in hospitals, especially due to the many outbreaks observed in these areas.

Due to the number and speed of doses, Minister Dubey said hospital workers would have to wait until Quebec receives higher doses to vaccinate, probably in January.

As of Friday, 27,400 health care workers had been infected.
