The news of the cancellation of Shawican 2024 was thus published on the official social networks of the event, on Friday evening, without fanfare. This withdrawal from the main cultural gathering in the region has nothing to do with the current crisis rocking culture chauvinism.
Joined by The Novelist, the main organizer of the event, Nino Mancuso, did not want to comment. However, we can read on his Facebook page that he is one of four employees fired by the company this week.
“For the uninitiated, there have been a lot of changes and cuts in my job. Today is my last day as the digital arbiter of Culture Shawinigan,” Shawinigan posted a few hours before the cancellation announcement.
The event would have been in its 9th edition in 2024. The news of its cancellation caused many internet users to react on social networks. “Really sad, I got the bug at Shavikan. Cosplay. 2025 will be a long time away…'' says Stefan Turgeon.
“So sad! I don't know if the city realizes the contribution of tourism created by Shawican. We clip the wings of this event when it flies. Is it a lack of vision?” asks host and techno columnist Denise Talbot.
“I had such a wonderful and beautiful weekend last year, I can't wait to go back! Too bad. Shawicon is a quality event that is destined to become a big event in Shawinigan,” said writer Manon Samson.
The 2023 edition of Shavikon went well and the participants were there. Remember that the culture has been in shambles since the revelation of the Shawinigan The Novellist Last November. Executive director Bryan Perrow and the company reportedly parted ways “by mutual agreement” a few days later.
