(Montreal) An agreement was reached in principle Monday morning between the Society des Alcools management and the 800 Warehouse and Branch Supply Employees Union for the renewal of the collective agreement.
This information was verified by the local division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) affiliated with SAQ Management and FTQ.
The provisional agreement was reached at 4:30 a.m., half an hour before the end of the treaty.
The union actually suspended its strike until 5am on Monday morning last week. Asked to give an opportunity for negotiations.
Although the consequences of the strike were very brief, according to the management, the SAQ was significant on the supply chain and deliveries.
In an interview on Monday, Michelle Gratton, CUPE union adviser assigned to the file, said she would recommend the interim agreement to members. A union sometimes prefers to remain neutral in agreement in principle and let its members decide on its achievement based on objectives.
“Members make the decision. In my case, I have been negotiating for a long time, I was satisfied or I did not submit it, ”he said succinctly when asked if he was fully or partially satisfied with the agreement in principle.
The 800 or more members of the local CUPE affiliated to the FTQ called for a vote in the next seven or eight days.
“There are still steps: find a room large enough for 800 people, book it, book transportation, date, availability. But, in the near future, we want to meet people in the next seven to eight days, ”Mr. Graton said.
He is in principle reluctant to disclose the contents of the contract, preferring to keep the first for his members – usually in such circumstances.
Issues in dispute include wages, occupational health and safety issues and overtime.
“All things were discussed,” Gratton said.
When contacted Monday morning, the Society des Alcoles management limited its comments. “Employees of our distribution centers in Montreal and Quebec were at work this morning, but in principle an agreement was reached last night between SAQ and the union,” she confirmed.
It does not even disclose the content of the agreement in principle: “Details will be provided to them shortly.”
