In an interview with Times US published on Saturday (November 25), the Enola Homes star lamented that ‘cancellation culture’ has affected her children’s godfather, Johnny Depp.

“I hate cancellation culture. It became hysterical and a kind of witch hunt and lack of awareness. That’s the problem with these things: people are jumping on the bandwagon and being the epitome of it,” she says.

The actress used the defamation lawsuit between Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard earlier this year as an example, accusing Amber Heard of ‘the pendulum of #MeToo (going back)’.

Despite the rhetoric surrounding the six-week trial, Helena Bonham Carter explained that she believes Johnny Depp was “absolutely cleared” by the court’s decision — which awarded him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in compensatory damages.
