This is meant to be an access function, but in iOS 14 Back Tap is a very convenient way to launch apps or run shortcuts. Here’s how to use it and what you can do with it.

You are less likely to make mistakes in the back tap feature iOS 14, But if you know where it is, you will use it. When this feature is turned on, you can tap on the back of your iPhone to do whatever it wants.

You can open the Control Center, lock your iPhone, turn on the torch, or enable up to 20 other system functions. Once you get used to it, your regret is that you can’t do more than one thing. But, you can.

Tapback is limited to double-tap or triple one. However, you can either run a specific shortcut or set two options, and then it will allow you to control as many functions as you want.

How to set up a back tap

  1. Go Settings
  2. Scroll to Flexibility And press
  3. Tap Touch
  4. Tap Press back

Now choose either Double tap Or Triple tap. Whatever you choose, you get the same list of options.

Note that it takes a surprising amount of time to open the options page, as iOS is retrieving the full list of your shortcuts. All these are listed alphabetically in the section at the bottom of this screen.

Tap to select any of these options or the shortcuts below, and then tap Press back To go back to the previous page.

Using Back Tap in iOS 14

Set up the triple tap exactly the same way and that’s it. You are going to spend more time selecting the function you want from the back tap than setting it up.

Now you get how it launches any app, or do whatever you set it to do, however you only appreciate how useful it is when you use it. For example, you can now get into your pocket and enable shortcuts to send a message to your ETA holders in their place.

You need an iPhone that can support the feature. However, not all phones from the iPhone 8 do.
