Nicole Parsons and Franకోois-Xavier Moranci are waiting to check their ticket despite hearing the news of winning the big lottery in St. John’s because they wanted to keep the dream of winning alive.
“The sooner I check it out, the sooner I know I’m not a winner, so I’m going to hold on to it for a while,” Parsons said in a news release Tuesday.
In this case, the dream did not end when they checked their ticket – the winner of the $ 18.2 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot.
After seeing the eyes of the two gas station employees who scanned the ticket light, Parsons said she asked them to sit down to tell them later.
“They slipped the paper across the counter, I looked at it … I don’t know if I’m going to cry, I’m going to hyper ventilate because I have a mask,” she said with a laugh. “I was in disbelief when I realized it was a major winner.”
During their win-win checkout on Tuesday, the couple said they plan to spend more money looking after their families, traveling to Quebec City and buying a condo to visit the Morensi family.
Parsons, a human resources manager who volunteers as a board member at Choices for Youth, and Mornsey, who works in the shipping industry, are also planning to retire early.
“With this money and the current situation, there are also other families who need our jobs so they can go back to work,” Morence said. “We don’t need that job anymore, so professionally we can step aside and make sure the other two people they need have a job.”
