The rally, which began late in the morning at Hector-to-Blake Park, helped launch the Montreal-Ottawa weekly action seeking a comprehensive and ongoing regularization program.

Event organizers said the COVID-19 pandemic would further increase the significant risk facing these people.

“The fight is for status for all,” said event organizer Abdul Kane. “We do this as a result of the extreme conditions we experience as immigrants. […] It’s an ongoing struggle, but we really do it because we have our backs to the wall, and we want to be treated like everyone else. ”

Following the march on Sunday, the organizers will hold other activities in Montreal during the week, before the organizers leave for Ottawa and march before Parliament on July 25 to convey their message to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
