Motorcycle convoy in Ottawa: Not a second profession in sight

After nearly three days of performances, the “Rolling Thunder” biker convoy began to leave the city of Ottawa, which could avoid a second conquest of its downtown core.

As the weekend drew to a close, the motorbike convoy held a “biker mass” on Sunday. The event, which was last scheduled for the weekend, brought hundreds of people together at Vanier Church in Ottawa.

A few hours ago, the church was the target of a vicious riot. “The Bias and Hate Crimes Unit investigation is ongoing,” the Ottawa Police Service said in a tweet.

All in all, there were fewer incidents than the Independence convoy over the weekend: it attacked the streets of Ottawa for almost three weeks. However, the police were called a few times. In total, 10 arrests, 761 parking tickets, 39 vehicles were towed and 10 tickets related to NewSense crimes.

“The situation this weekend was much better for our residents and our small businesses than the convoy of trucks in February, but it’s still disturbing,” Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson told CTV News on Sunday afternoon. He then took the opportunity to highlight the work of the police.

Although the “Rolling Thunder” event ended with Mass on Sunday, police remained on site to prevent an outbreak.

“Like last time, we’m going to say our operation is over until everyone leaves our area,” Ottawa Police Acting Chief Steve Bell told CTV News on Saturday night.
