Quebec Solidaire must be officially recognized as a parliamentary group, argues Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois. Dominic Anglade’s decision in this case reveals the true nature of a Liberal Party leader: a leader or a follower of partisanship.

“Who is the famous real Dominic? A leader who allows Parliament to work in diversity or a leader who wants to impose her partisan views? Quebec Solidaire representative Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois was excellent.
The official opposition leader, Dominique Anglade, declined to say whether her party would recognize Quebec Solidaire and the Parti Québécois as a parliamentary group.
In the coming weeks, the Secretariat of the National Assembly will convene political parties to discuss their roles and parliamentary legislation.
To be automatically recognized, a formation must elect 12 deputies or receive 20% of the vote.
Low voices
11 deputies were elected to the QS and received 15.43% of the votes. Dominique Anglade’s PLQ elected 21 deputies, but with 14.37% it received fewer votes than Quebec Solidaire and the Parti Québécois.
“What Dominique Anglade needs to understand is that she is not immune to popular will,” QS spokesman Gabrielle Nadeau-Dubois said in an interview Wednesday morning. “She cannot take advantage of distortions in our voting system to impose partisan views against the will of Quebecers who overwhelmingly voted for Quebec Solidaire.”

An assistant spokeswoman recalled that Dominic Anglade promoted his leadership. “She described him as a unifier. So his decision in the next few weeks will reveal the true nature of his leadership. Is it vengeful leadership, or is it open leadership and dialogue? The ball is in his court,” he said.
“I don’t know what Dominique Anglade is afraid of. But I do know that, as leader of the official opposition, she has responsibilities, and one of her responsibilities is to make sure democracy and the Quebec parliament work. And, a parliament with 11 or 14 independents, that’s going to be a parliament that’s in danger of being dysfunctional.
An assistant spokesman recalled that the PLQ marked its formation during the last legislature when it elected 10 deputies.
“Today we have another one. We have 11. The former is created, it exists. I remind you that ADQ is identified with less than 10 deputies. So, we cannot retreat like that. I do not agree to consider the possibility that the 11 representatives in solidarity will be independents,” he asserted.
Open for PQ
Mr. Nadeau-Dubois refused to negotiate in the public square, but with three deputies and 14% of the vote, the Parti Québécois confirmed that it should be able to serve in the National Assembly.
“He should have the means to do the job he was elected to do. We are ready to find a formula that allows him to do his job well. We are already three to Quebec Solidaire, so we understand the situation.
