PLQ: Former Philippe Coulard strategist Jean-Lesage will be a candidate

Charles Robert, a former close adviser to leaders Philippe Couillard and Dominique Anglade, will try to oust Jean-Lesage solidary Sol Zanetti for the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) in the next election.

His candidacy will be made official on Wednesday morning, confirmed in the presence of MLA Anglade at a press conference held at the local party headquarters in the capital. News magazine In the Liberal campaign.

A behind-the-scenes presence in politics for fifteen years, Charles Robert was a deputy director in Philippe Coulard’s cabinet when he was Premier of Quebec from 2014 to 2018.

The following year, he joined Official Opposition Leader Dominic Anglade’s team at similar events. Earlier, he worked notably with former ministers Laurent Lessard and Lise Theriault.

But last year he had to take leave due to health reasons.

Mr Robert will thus become the fourth Liberal candidate announced by the PLQ in the Capitale-Nationale region, covering a total of eleven ridings.

In Jean-Lesage, west of Limoilou and Beauport, he faces incumbent Sol Zanetti (QS), Christian Gamache (CAQ), Michael Potvin (PQ) and Denis Peter (PCQ).

According to poll aggregator Qc125.com, nearly two weeks before the election, voting intentions have been deposited between QS and CAQ at 34% and 33% respectively in this riding.

According to this aggregator, the PLQ, already represented from 2008 to 2018 with André Drolet, is at 8%.
