“Every year, there is no reason why the production of tax returns should not be such a painful time for Cubans. We do it in the United Kingdom and Australia, and there is no reason not to do it in Quebec, ”Ruba Ghazal, the party’s tax spokeswoman, said in a statement on Saturday.

The solidarity proposal echoes the coalition of groups that launched the “C’est quoi le rapport” campaign, which aims to obtain a simplified tax return for people living exclusively on government benefits, such as those receiving social assistance, financial assistance for old age pension or education, and other non-income earners. This measure also helps community organizations, which can help individuals who are harming themselves in the production of their tax returns.

“For people struggling with serious mental or physical health issues, single-parent families in precarious situations, low-income seniors, the illiterate, newcomers or the homeless, the tax return represents useless and repressive paperwork,” said coordinator Sylvia Bissonet. Point-St-Charles Social Assistance Committee (CPAS).

Once the proposal is implemented, the tax authorities will pre-fill the citizens’ tax returns based on the information they already have. The announcement will then be forwarded to individuals. In case the data needs to be adjusted or added, the person will modify it and return their amended declaration within a specified period.
